We have looked at the illustration artists Eric Carle and Steve Jenkins and made some collage paper to create some of our own collage pictures.
Steve Jenkins.
Two great artists to look at to get inspiration from. We have read some of their stories and looked at lots of their pictures.
We have used paint, water color pastel/pencil, oil pastel, crayon and dye with stamping techniques, cotton buds, brushes, water spray and texture rubs to create our paper. We have used some of this paper in our math 'Shape monsters' but are yet to create our collage masterpiece....watch for this next term!

Our beach art was so much fun. We collected, categorized and 'placed' to make 'shape mandolas'. The children were given a basic example/idea, then left to their own devices with this one and created some amazing art! I loved how they used shape, form, 3D sand built up and also dug out, shells laying down and standing up, wet sand, dry sand, plants, rocks etc....

We continued with this 'shape, collection' idea in the classroom. The children rotated exercises from 'found material collection' from around the school with Tina, art 'shape stamping' with me and 'maths shape art' inside with Tanya.
Here are a few of the outcomes...

From here we have moved into looking hard at shapes within an image, identifying the shape and trying to draw it. The children did some amazing drawings using collections of shapes. We then went back to what we had learnt about primary and secondary colours.

They coloured their pictures with dye (mixing their own secondary colours) and being precise with their paint brush.

The work was beautiful, so to finish them 'professionally' we contained them in a boarder using only black on white paper.

The medium we used was indian ink with a cotton bud and if you have ever used it before you will know how hard it is to control. They did so well and stuck to basic bold shape and lines to create effect.
